April’s Check It Out Brown Bag Lunch: Meet Joshua Chamberlain

April 12, 2011 marked the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the American Civil War. On Wednesday, April 18, from noon to 1:00pm, Charles W. Plummer, in the persona of Maine’s Civil War hero, Gen. Joshua L. Chamberlain, will present a first-person narrative of the war from the firing on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor on April 12, 1861 to its ending with Gen. Robert E. Lee’s surrender of his army on April 9, 1865. As Chamberlain, he will give an overview of some of the major battles that took place during the war and the role that the Maine regiments played in those battles including the volunteers from Poland. He will also give an overview of the volunteers from Poland who fought at the Battle of Gettysburg and the support that the civilian population played in supporting the Union war effort and the families of Maine’s volunteers who were in need of assistance.

Bring a brown bag lunch and we’ll provide tea and coffee.
